The requirements of future lawyers’ English phonetic and lexical competences

Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the requirements of future lawyers’ English phonetic and lexical competences. These requirements are defined in accordanding with the stages of teaching English at the Academy of the State Penitentiary Service on the first, second and fourth courses. The theoretical and methodological basis of this article includes the general background of higher school didactics and methods of teaching foreign languages, approaches to scientific and pedagogical research, theoretical and methodological principles on which the methods of teaching English phonetics and vocabulary to future lawyers at different stages while their training at the Academy of State Penitentiary Service. In this article it is used a critical analysis of domestic and foreign pedagogical, linguistic and methodological literature on the research theme, educational documents, curricula. According to the curriculum of English as a discipline, the aim and subject of teaching English are determined. Based on the research, it is noted that the content of linquistic competences includes declarative and procedural knowledge, skills and language awareness. It is pointed out that these requirements of English phonetic and lexical competences’s level should be taken into account in the organization of future lawyers’ educational activities, which is designed to help ensure the realization of the aim of teaching them in the academy. У статті розглядаються питання щодо визначення вимог до рівня володіння майбутніми юристами англомовною фонетичною та лексичною компетентностями. Визначення цих вимог відбувається згідно з етапами навчання англійської мови в Академії Державної пенітенціарної служби на першому, другому та четвертому курсах. Теоретико-методологічною основою цієї статті є загальні положення дидактики вищої школи і методики навчання іноземних мов, підходи науково-педагогічного пошуку, теоретико-методологічні засади, на яких ґрунтується методика навчання майбутніх юристів англомовної фонетики та лексики на різних етапах навчання в Академії Державної пенітенціарної служби. У статті використаний критичний аналіз вітчизняних та іноземних педагогічних, лінгвістичних і методичних літературних джерел із теми, що досліджується, освітніх документів, навчальних програм. Згідно з програмою навчальної дисципліни визначено мету та предметом вивчення англійської мови. На основі досліджень зазначено, що зміст мовних компетентностей включає декларативні та процедурні знання, навички та мовну усвідомленість. Уточнені вимоги до рівня володіння цими мовними компетентностями потрібно враховувати в організації навчально-виховної діяльності, яка покликана сприяти забезпеченню реалізації меті навчання майбутніх юристів.
